If you are lucky enough to have inherited a love for horses, you will know the joy of life. It is truly a privilege to be living in the country surrounded by mares, foals and a Jack Russell. Every year we relive the excitement of choosing the stallions, waiting with baited breath to see if the mares fall pregnant, hoping the pregnancy and birth go well.
Horses have always been an integral part of our family. When my father started farming on his own, he took a foal from his family farm and began to ride and breed sporthorses on the side. Descendants of that first mare are still loved by our family today.
Thirteen years ago my father, Martien Couwenberg, purchased a number of exclusive broodmares so laying the foundation for the successful breeding of KWPN sporthorses (Royal Dutch Sporthorses).
The “golden mare” Citty (RamiroxJoostxAbgar) has had a great influence on my current breeding programme. This remarkable mare is mother to 3 Grand Prix showjumpers, an Int. showjumper and for example the champion of the KWPN stallion examination.
Her great-grandson Highlander C (Numero UnoxVingino) has become an approved stallion for the Royal Dutch Sporthorse since May 2015.
Out of daughters of Citty have come 3 Grand Prix/Int. showjumpers. Citty and G.Citty are in the top 200 ranking of best breeding mares of Holland.
Her daughters Vitty Valente C, Witty Luterra C and grand daughter Ditty Dante C have also proven their breeding quality having produced a number of foals accepted for auctions. Their oldest progeny are currently competing on a national level in showjumping. In October 2017 Cincitty C has won the Longines Grand Prix of Beijing with Henrik von Eckermann. Citty’s progeny have been proven to carry her genetic value.
Citty and her daughters have given us 5 Grand Prix showjumpers and 12 showjumpers performing from 1.30-1.40-1.45 till 1.50m level. Very remarkable for such few mares. Performance and health is anchored in this mare line.
I am pleased that you have found your way to my website. You would be most welcome to visit my farm and view the horses.
